April 13, 2015 - Ok ladies, here we go...Golf Season 2015.
I almost cannot bear to admit that I never made it out onto the golf course last season, so I was excited to get outside and swing a club yesterday. Man-o-man am I stiff. But...what I find myself thinking about is how important it is to ease your way back out on to the course after this long, hard winter. We had such a beautiful weekend here in Boston, and I imagine the golf courses and even the driving ranges were bustling.
I've been preparing for that first swing for a couple of weeks. I've been down on the floor stretching and swinging an imaginary club inside the house. A couple of weeks ago while the weather was still nasty, I stopped in my local golf shop and swung a club in their simulator. (I didn't even attempt to hit a ball - I just swung the club.) And even those first swings yesterday were few, simple and easy. I like to stand on my back deck, allowing the club head to hang over the edge so that I don't have to think about the ground. At this point in the season, I don't try to swing away; I'm simply trying to stretch out my back and shoulder muscles with a slow, easy motion. I loved just the simplicity of having the club in my hands again, and I will gradually find my way back to my natural swing over the next couple of weeks..
I encourage you not to wait until you're able to get out onto the course to start your golf fitness routine. Start now and your early rounds will be wicked easy !
